HTC Edge, Zeta quad-core Android phones to be revealed next month
By Jon on January 5th, 2012
HTC spent much of 2011 releasing solid single-core devices like the HTC Incredible S and the HTC Sensation XL, but it’s been known for some time that it was planning a high-end quad-core onslaught. Now it seems the HTC Edge and HTC Zeta could be revealed in February. Read on for more information.
Quad-core contenders
At the beginning of November we reported on supposedly leaked pictures and specs of the HTC Edge (which will almost certainly prove to be a code name). The Edge is set to come with a 4.7-inch HD screen and a 1.5GHz quad-core processor. Exciting stuff.
It didn’t end there for high-powered HTC delights, though. Exactly a week later we reported on another potentially awesome quad-core smartphone from the company – the HTC Zeta (again, likely to be a code name). Whether it was a conceptual render or an accurate portrayal of the device was unclear, but it looked to be a bold stylistic departure from HTC with its sharp corners and contoured rear.
Not just that – the rumoured specs that accompanied these pictures were truly awesome. Apparently, the Qualcomm processor at its heart would be a quad-core unit clocked at a monstrous (and, we have to say, slightly dubious) 2.5GHz. The screen would be slightly smaller than the Edge at 4.5-inch, but no less sharp.

Whether these specs are accurate or not, one thing’s for sure – HTC’s planning to up its Android smartphone game considerably. The question posed was: when would we see these stunning devices?
That may have been answered by a JP Morgan Chase report, as relayed by DigiTimes. Apparently HTC’s stock has been upgraded to “overweight”, and it has nothing to do with festive overindulgence. Rather, they reckon it’s because the company is ready to unleash its next gen phones, with an announcement set for this year’s Mobile World Congress show.
As keen observers will realise, that means we could be seeing the HTC Edge and the HTC Zeta in sunny Barcelona from February 27. Given the likelihood of seeing the Samsung Galaxy S 3 at the same show, this would be a reasonable and wise move on HTC’s part if it’s to stick with its prolific rival in the Android war.
