Acer may not be household name on the smartphone front, but it is aiming to bring a little innovation to the mid-range Android scene with the Acer Liquid Express. Read on to find out more.
3.5-inch LCD
The Acer Liquid Express comes with a fairly modest 3.5-inch display. Of course, we say modest, but that’s the exact same size as every iPhone screen there’s ever been. Let’s leave it at ‘compact’. ‘Modest’ can certainly be ascribed to its 480 x 320 resolution, though.
800MHz CPU
When it comes to power, the Acer Liquid Express is equally mid-range. In fact, at 800MHz it could be said that it’s a little below what we’ve come to expect of a modern mid-range smartphone. Still, Acer claims that this efficient Qualcomm chip ensures low power consumption, which is a big plus.

NFC
Here’s the one stand-out component – the Acer Liquid Express comes with NFC technology. Near Field Communication (which enables mobile payments and local wireless information exchanging) has made its way into a handful of handsets so far, including the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, the BlackBerry Bold 9900 and the Nokia 700. Only Nokia has really pushed the technology into affordable devices, though, so it’s good to see it here.
5-megapixel camera
It’s a pretty standard 5-megapixel camera in the Acer Liquid Express, but at least it comes with autofocus and an LED flash.
Android 2.3
The Acer Liquid Express ships with a reasonably up to date version of Android 2.3 Gingerbread – although that of course has become a lot less appealing now that Ice Cream Sandwich is with us. Whether the Liquid Express will receive an update or not is unknown – all we know is that the new Android OS is aimed at devices with big HD screens and reasonably capable processors.
