As the names of the Motorola Droid RAZR and the Motorola Droid Bionic suggest, Motorola built its recent Android success on the back of the Motorola Droid. Now the latest addition to the qwerty-sporting range has been outed. So how’s it shaping up?
Qwerty keyboard
Naturally, the Motorola Droid 4 features the slide-out qwerty keyboard that made the range famous. Such sliders may have diminished in popularity in recent times, but there’s still a large minority who prefer their typing physical. This five-row illuminated example looks to be one of the best yet.
4-inch Super AMOLED Advanced screen
That’s a nicely balanced 4-inch screen right there, and Droid-life (which obtained the info and pics) believe it’s likely to be a Super AMOLED Advanced display. Considering the Motorola Droid RAZR – which the Droid 4 appears to resemble – has this, we’d say it’s a good bet. A qHD 960 x 540 resolution in a 4-inch shell would mean a very tasty 275ppi.

8-megapixel camera
This isn’t known for a fact, but the chances of the Motorola Droid 4 containing an 8-megapixel camera are extremely high indeed. Not only does the Motorola Droid RAZR have such a camera, but the Motorola Droid 3 had an 8-megapixel unit too. Mobile tech doesn’t tend to get worse, does it?
Non-removable battery
Interestingly, the Motorola Droid 4 appears to feature a non-removable battery. This is rare in modern smartphones, with only Apple and Nokia really notable for the practice. In this case, it would appear to be a bid to address the age-old qwerty slider problem – bulk.
Android 2.3.5
No Android Ice Cream Sandwich for the Motorola Droid 4 – at least not yet. In the wake of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus release you can expect this to be addressed by an update, but for now you get the very latest version of Android Gingerbread, which is 2.3.5. It’s a pretty decent OS, all things considered.
