Steve Jobs, the co-founder of Apple and the creative force behind the iPhone and iPad, has died aged 56. He had been suffering from cancer for many years.
As well as helping kickstart the home computing boom of the early 1980s, Jobs was responsible for instigating Apple’s iPhone and iPad revolution. In short, the touch-driven, app-fed mobile market we see today is a direct result of his singular vision.
Jobs had stepped down from his position as CEO of Apple on August 24 of this year owing to deteriorating health. At the time of his death he was still Apple Chairman and a board member. Head here for Apple’s brief tribute to its former head, or send your condolences to rememberingsteve@apple.com.
Steve Jobs leaves behind a wife, Laurene, and their three children. His family has issued a statement, which can be read here.
Our condolences go out to Steve’s family and friends.
