The Nokia Connection event held in Singapore revealed more than just the Nokia N9. The company has always excelled at creating solid and affordable phones for emerging markets, and the Nokia C2-02, C2-03 and C2-06 look like three smart additions to that line.
As suggested by the names, not to mention the way they’ve been lumped together in press material, these handsets share many core features, differing only in a few minor details. All share a form factor that includes a combination of touchscreen input and a slide-out numerical keypad.
Here are the known specs of what appears to be the main device, the Nokia C2-03, as well as the variations found within the C2-02 and C2-06
Nokia C2-03
- Dual-SIM, 1 x Easy Swap, 5 x SIMs can be registered and personalised
- 103 x 51.4 x 17 mm, 118g
- 2.6-inch QVGA resistive touchscreen display
- Series 40 OS
- 10MB internal storage, 2GB microSD card (up to 32GB possible)
- 2-megapixel camera
- slide-out numerical keypad
- FM radio
- Nokia Maps
- Nokia Browser with compression technology for fast, low cost web browsing
- Available Q3 2011 in India, China, SEAP, Eurasia and MEA for €75
Nokia C2-02
As above, but with a traditional single SIM setup rather than dual-SIM. The emphasis here appears to be on communication, with “push messaging options and a broad range of IM providers included,” according to Nokia.
Whether that means the other models won’t feature these elements, we’re not sure, but this certainly seems to be the model that’s best suited to the UK market.
Nokia C2-06
The C2-06, too, is very similar to the C2-03, this time sharing its dual-sim set-up. The main difference being an aesthetic one. According to Nokia, it “comes in a range of fresh colours with a clean, smooth finish.” Sounds a bit like a beer, doesn’t it?
The C2-06 will be a little more expensive than the C2-02 and C2-03 at €80, but should be released in the same Q3 window.
