The Samsung Galaxy S II is looking set to be a tasty bit of kit, complete with its own custom dual-core CPU. However, it’s now been confirmed that some customers will receive a slightly different device.
Apparently, yields of Samsung’s dual-core Exynos chip haven’t been sufficient to keep up with the phenomenal demand for the Galaxy S follow-up. Fortunately, Nvidia has been on hand to step in with a replacement.
The Tegra 2 apparently offers comparable performance, and is in many of the prominent handsets about to hit the market. The Motorola Xoom, LG Optimus 2x and even Samsung’s own Galaxy Tab 10.1 will all sport the Nvidia chip.
So who will get this heart-transplanted Galaxy S II? It’s been speculated that America and Britain will get first dibs on the original, Exynos-powered devices, while other regions will get the Tegra variant.
Could the original become a valuable collector’s item? Watch this space (and eBay).
