Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Android 2.2 and Gingerbread updates not coming, says Sony Ericsson
By Andrew on January 10th, 2011
The Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Android smartphone will not be getting an upgrade to Android 2.2. This comes straight from the mouth of Sony Ericsson too, unfortunately.
The Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 started out its life behind the times, launching with the already-aged Android 1.6 OS back in 2010. It eventually crept up to Android 2.1, but Sony Ericsson says that’s as far as it’ll get, claiming on twitter that “the features included in the Android 2.1 phone are on par with, and in many cases better than, a vanilla installation of 2.2.”
We can only assume that here Sony Ericsson is referring to Mediascape and Timescape, the custom UI elements that have been plastered over Android 2.1 in the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10. Pretty as they may be, we’re not sure they entirely mitigate for the lack of full Flash support, SD card app installations and Wi-Fi mobile internet sharing that would be enabled with an Android 2.2 update.
It may be no consolation for those of you that already own a Sony Ericsson Xperia X10, but it sounds like Sony Ericsson’s trying to wipe the slate clean with the upcoming Xony Ericsson Xperia Arc, which will use Android 2.3 from the start.
