HTC confirms Android 2.3 Gingerbread update plans — HTC Desire HD the top bet
By Andrew on December 8th, 2010
HTC says that it plans to boost some of its Android phones up to Android 2.3 Gingerbread, the recently-relesed edition of the OS, but exact details are still scarce.
Trying to find out when top Androids like the HTC Desire HD will get their bump up to Android 2.3, Pocket-lint talked to HTC to find out if they could discover more about the manufacturer’s Android update plans. The response was very vague, but does suggest that some of HTC’s top dogs will get an update —
“We are excited about the OS update coming for Android. And while HTC will definitely have some phones running this OS, we do not have a specific timeframe for new phones or updates at this time. Please stay tuned for more details.”
As detail-free as this statement may be, it does suggest that HTC will take Android 2.3 seriously. The handsets we’d wager are at the front of the Gingerbread update line are the HTC Desire HD and HTC Desire Z, both of which currently run Android 2.2.
To think Android 2.2 seemed so new so recently — Androids always leave you pining after something new. If you’re chiomping at the bit to get Android 2.3 on your Android, let us know what phone you’re running and what about Android 2.3 has you drooling.
