Samsung has just registered a patent that outlines a back touch-sensitive surface for a tablet. Could this feature be implemented in the first generation of Samsung Galaxy Tablet tablets?
The patent talks of the “mobile terminal having dual touch screen and method of controlling content therein.” We haven’t quite reached the stage where we call all mobile devices “terminals”, but the pictures included in the patent application tell a simpler story.
The back touch “screen” will be used as a secondary multitouch interface, presumably giving you tighter control over what’s on-screen by requiring less of the screen to be obscured by your digits.
Will this end up in Samsung’s products soon, or is this yet another patent that’ll languish in a virtual filing cabinet somewhere, never to be used? We think that it’s unlikely to show up in the first generation of Samsung Galaxy Tab tablets — price point is very important as Samsung’s tablets go head-to-head with Apple’s iPad, so any expensive and superfluous additions are arguably a bad idea.
Think it’s a great idea? Let us know in the comments.
