HTC Desire Android 2.2 update coming very soon

Written by Andrew on July 29, 2010 – 10:20 am View Comments

desireAccording to a leak by an HTC employee, the HTC Desire Android 2.2 Froyo update could land within the next few days.

Regional HTC director Mark Moons said in a tweet, “We start tomorrow with the upgrades to 2.2 for Android Desire, later devices” (translated from the original Dutch.) If you’re an HTC Desire user, you could be rocking Android 2.2 before the end of the week. It’s unlikely, however, as bandwidth restrictions mean the updates will be staggered.

This remains great news though, following the lengthy, and quite painful, wait HTC Hero users had to endure to get Android 2.1 – the update took more than a year to arrive.

Android 2.2 adds the ability to install apps to your SD card and the power to turn your phone into a mini Wi-Fi hot spot. We’ll be back with more on the HTC Desire Android 2.2 roll-out as details appear.

“the update took more than a year to arrive” – that can’t be right, from memory Google released v2.1 with the Nexus One in March 2010.

LOL @ the power of Twitter….wonder how many times this guy has now been bollocked for putting this out on Twitter, prior to any official announcements….

Hi John32… It was so long for the Hero because HTC promised a 1.6 update, then a 2.0 update but ended up skipping both – so in effect the update was promised since way before 2.1 was around.

But how long before carriers mess with the ROMs and then approve the updates? Hopefully Vodafone will not mess about!
