iPhone 4 vs iPhone 3GS — Retina display under a microscope
The most exciting new feature of iPhone 4 (as far as we’re concerned anyway) is the ultra high-resolution Retina display screen. Step in to see it close up. Very close up.
Two PhD students from Penn State university have put the iPhone 4’s retina display under a photo microscope, resulting in these jaw-dropping photos comparing the next-gen iPhone with the screen of the common old 3G.
The Retina display screen supplies unparalleled sharpness and detail. Take the photo of the Apple logo as an example — you can barely see what it is on the iPhone 3G’s screen, but it’s very clear on the new iPhone 4 display.
The iPhone 4 screen features four times as many pixels as the iPhone 3G’s model, with pixels just 6.5 x 20 microns in size on the iPhone 4 compared to the positively chubby 13 x 40 microns on the iPhone 3G. We’ll be taking a first-hand look at the iPhone 4’s screen soon, so stay tuned for our in-depth impressions.
