The Sony Ericsson Developer World team has posted a hands-on video preview of the upcoming Xperia X8 Android phone. Step in for a peek.

The video shows off the Sony Ericsson UX UI, seen in the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini. It’s an interface designed for smaller screens, and we’re hoping it’ll pull off the same performance in the Xperia X8’s 3-inch number.

As an official developer video, it’s no surprise that the presenter of the hands-on is very complimentary about the Xperia X8’s abilities, but we’ll admit it looks very snappy as he flicks across the phone’s home screens.

The Xperia X8 features a capacitive touchscreen, a 3.2-megapixel camera — without flash — and the same Android 1.6 OS as the Xperia X10 Mini. Sony Ericsson needs to show us the money on this one. At the right price point, it could be a sure-fire winner. Pitch it too high, and the Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 may crash and burn amongst the red-hot competition.
