In time for today’s UK launch of the Apple iPad, the iBooks store has been filled with both paid-for and free ebooks.
Before today, the iBooks store was only populated by free titles, but now it has paid-for books too, including Chris Evans’s biography — lucky for Apple iPad owners. The paid books aren’t incredibly cheap, ranging between £5.99 and £11.99, but this includes high-profile titles that you might not be able to find any cheaper in paper form.
The late arrival of paid books occured because of last-minute negotiations between Apple and book publishers — whenever there’s money involved, you can be sure things are going to get heated.
The Apple iPad launched this morning at 8am as the Apple Stores of the UK opened. Want one? You can also try out PC World and Currys, where the gadget is also available.
