Google Maps Navigation, the free, turn-by-turn satnav service from the search giant, has finally launched in the UK. And best of all, it’s not just shackled to the newest Android phones, with old-school Android 1.6 devices getting in on the action.
An overnight update has finally brought Brits the ace Google Maps Navigation. It’s the same 4.1.1 build that was unleashed in the US earlier this month and means those who want gratis directions in Blighty won’t need to resort to pesky hacks to get the service working.
But the best news is that this isn’t just on Android 2.0 and higher devices, such as the HTC Legend and Desire. The Android 1.6-packing Xperia X10 will also play nice and with that massive 4-inch screen, it means your dedicated PND may as well be chucked in the drawer marked ‘old school gadgets’.
The move means Google Maps Navigation is fighting it out with the latest Nokia Ovi Maps for your free navigation attention. That TomTom iPhone app is looking mighty pricey now.
