Top Mother’s Day gift pre-pay phones

Written by Andrew on March 13, 2010 – 11:00 am Comment

presentDoes your mother need a new phone? Why not buy her one for Mother’s Day? You don’t have to spend hundreds of pounds either. There are perfectly good handsets available for almost ‘nowt.

LG KS360
If your mum’s a hardcore texter or emailer, you should consider the LG KS360 because of its physical Qwerty keyboard. Most people can type faster with a real keyboard than with a virtual one, and the LG KS360 offers the best of both worlds – it has a touchscreen as well as the Qwerty. Full keyboards normally seem like very serious features, but the KS360 makes its keyboard look fun by painting it blue.
Top feature – full keyboard

vodafone533Vodafone 533
Incredibly cheap and infinitely cheerful, the Vodafone 533 doesn’t boast stacks of high-end features but it does come in loads of different colours – including Candy pink, violet, red and blue. For under £30, you get a lot of phone for your money, and the Vodafone 533 even has a camera and FM radio.
Top feature – rock-bottom price

Samsung Genio Touch
The Samsung Genio Touch was one of the budget stars of 2009. For well under a hundred pounds, it offers a captive touchscreen – that’s the type used in the iPhone – and a widget-based interface that’s not too far off what’s used in much more expensive smartphones. The Genio Touch comes with interchangeable backplates to let you customise the phone’s look too.
Top feature – great touchscreen

5230Nokia 5230
This phone costs a little more than our other top picks, but for good reason – the Nokia 5230 is a bonafide smartphone. It runs the Symbian OS and offers fast browsing thanks to its 3G HSDPA connectivity. Its high resolution 3.2-inch screen makes it much better for watching videos than these other pre-pay phones too. If your mum’s a technophile, this is probably the one to pick.
Top feature – real smartphone power

INQ Mini 3G
The INQ Mini 3G is all about social networking. If your mum’s always on Twitter, and forever uploading photos to Facebook, the INQ Mini 3G is one of the best budget phones to consider. It features integrated apps to give you easy access to both of these popular social networks. This is also one of the cheapest phones around to feature 3G connectivity, which lets you browse the net quickly.
Top feature – great social networking integration
