Specific details about RIM’s upcoming BlackBerry slider device have been leaked, including some features new to the BlackBerry series. Read on for more juicy tidbits.
These rumours were leaked by a BlackBerry insider to Boy Genius Report so there’s nothing official about these latest details, but they’re worth reading. The basic form factor will be quite a departure for BlackBerry, using a portrait slide-out Qwerty – like the Palm Pre.
This new BlackBerry slider will also use Wi-Fi 802.11n, the new super-long range standard for Wi-Fi connections that’s used in the latest broadband routers. The device will also run off a new version of the BlackBerry OS, 6.0, although exactly what new features this will offer remains a mystery.
Not everything has changed though. The BlackBerry slider will reportedly use a 360×480 resolution screen, as used in the latest BlackBerry Storm phones. This high resolution screens suggests that touchscreen navigation will be involved, but won’t that make the phone very large when the Qwerty is pulled out?
It’s a design challenge we expect RIM is working away on behind closed doors, but we’ll let you know as we find out more about this upcoming device.
