A new “Explicit” category may be heading to the App Store, following on from Apple’s mass cull of more than 5000 adult titles earlier in the week. Smut fans rejoice…
The new “Explicit” category hasn’t appeared yet on the App Store, but yesterday it showed up as an option within iTunes Connect, which is what developers use to submit their iPhone apps. At the point where they have to select which category their applications fit into, this new category appeared among the usual suspects such as Games and Entertainment, but was removed later on that day.
This revelation follows on from Apple’s removal of more than 5000 adult-themed apps. Dropping any adult titles into their own section makes a lot of sense, allowing for easier age verification procedures to be put in place, not to mention giving Apple more ammunition against any complainants.
After all, Apple is famed for giving people what they want , even if they don’t know they want it until Apple tells them they do.
