If we’re honest, we can’t wait to make the jump to a Windows Phone 7 Series handset, but if you’re a Windows Mobile user, this latest Windows Marketplace update should put a smile on your face.
Microsoft’s latest Windows Marketplace update adds several new invaluable features to the app store, upping its usability significantly. Our top pick is the ability to save apps to a memory card rather than the phone’s memory, meaning you’re not under the thumb of your phone’s limited built-in memory capabilities.
Developers can now include deep links in their apps to other downloads, allowing you to buy a full version from within a quickie trial edition, for example.
Microsoft has also opened-up the Marketplace, making it truly global. The World View option lets you check out apps from outside your own country, even if they’ve not been specifically made available there by the developer. We expect you’ll find more foreign-language apps than killer ones, but this will make the Windows Marketplace much more useful for frequent fliers.
Lastly, apps can now make VoIP calls over mobile Internet connections rather than just Wi-Fi, although carriers can still put a block on this feature. These neat updates apply to users of Windows Mobile 6.0 and above.
