RIM has revealed that BlackBerry users will soon be getting an official Twitter app. Read on for all the details of the Tweet treat…
In general, third-party Twitter apps are in no short supply, but BlackBerry users haven’t been as lucky as some, with many efforts proving hit and miss on the business-focused handsets.
But you can’t fault RIM for its response: the official Twitter app comes straight from its own labs, promising a slick interface and – as you would expect – tight integration with BlackBerry OS.
Before you get too excited, though, it’ll still be some time before every BlackBerry-wielding Tom, Dick and Harry will be tweeting away at will.
At present the official Twitter app for BlackBerry is limited to a closed beta – which you can still get your name down for – with a public beta following on “soon”, according to RIM.
In the meantime, you can see what the fuss is all about by checking out a detailed preview of the Twitter app on the BlackBerry Blogs site, complete with plenty of screenshots so you can see that slick interface in action.
Among the numerous features the preview brings to light are “push tweets” that arrive on your BlackBerry just like push emails – in fact, the app integrates with your inbox so tweets and emails are listed together.
It supports the familiar bit.ly URL-shortening system, gives you full profile management straight from the handset, and throws in geotagged tweets so you can see who’s tweeting in your vicinity.
