Googe working on gPad, iPad competitor?
Move over Apple iPad, rumour has it that Google is working on the Google gPad – could the touchscreen Tablet market be hotting up even more?
With the headline-hogging Apple iPad barely a week out the starting blocks, rumours that Google could have a tablet of its own in the offing are gathering pace.
Dubbed the “gPad”, the touchscreen device is shown in a concept video apparently posted by a Google Chrome OS designer, suggesting this is more than just an attention-seeking leak.
The video shows the device clearly running the Google’s forthcoming Chrome operating system, though the hardware itself is clearly just a prototype for the OS.
Whether it runs Android or Chrome, Google clearly has the tools at its disposal to take the iPad on, especially if it gets long-time hardware partner HTC involved.
If so, it’ll represent just the latest in an increasingly frequent line of spats between the two companies, with Google’s Nexus One directly taking on the iPhone.
