Vodafone has promised record first-day iPhone sales of near 50,000 units.
It’s day one of the Vodafone iPhone era, but the network has no intention of starting slowly, saying that as long as the weather plays along (and so far it seems to have done so), it’ll smash the 30,000 sales Orange racked up when O2′s iPhone network exclusivity deal came to a close in November.
The 50,000 figure refers to handsets that have been pre-ordered and delivered or collected on day one – so any in-store sales on the first day of retail are extra icing on the iPhone cake.
In making the bold prediction, Vodafone CEO Guy Laurence commented that the demand was a reflection of Vodafone’s appeal as a network. Despite offering much the same deals as its iPhone network rivals, Vodafone is banking on network service to spearhead its appeal.
Vodafone has also outed two new apps in the iTunes app atore today – 360 People Sync for managing all your contacts and Navigation, a revolutionary new free sat nav app.
