Oppo phone shows live weather info

Written by Linsey on December 18, 2009 – 9:00 am Comment

oppo_phoneObscure US firm Oppo is the latest firm to throw its hat in the smartphone ring with an Android-powered handset with a unique twist – it gives you live weather info.

The Oppo weather handset uses a system of LEDs running down the sides to indicate temperature, humidity and the date – though the details of exactly how it does this aren’t clear at this point.

The phone’s more conventional features include a 3.5in WVGA capacitive touchscreen with multitouch support, Wi-Fi and a physical slide-out QWERTY keyboard.

Renderings of this quirky customer suggest the eight LEDs down the side will be lit up in different configurations based on the weather conditions. We’ll have to wait until some time in the next quarter to find out the exact details – until then, we’ll just have to rely on our own eyes to see what the weather’s up to.
