Acer Liquid A1 the first of many
Acer’s Android-rocking Liquid A1 is likely to be the first of many Android smartphones from the computer manufacturer over the next year. Read on for more Android-flavoured news nuggets…
Until now, Acer’s efforts have relied on Windows Mobile to run the show, including the WinMo 6.5-powered beTouch and neoTouch ranges launched last month. But in the run-up to the Liquid’s release in December, top Acer bod Aymar de Lencquesaing told Reuters that his company had been very impressed by Android and was planning plenty more handsets running the Google OS over the next year.
“There is definitely momentum behind Android,” de Lencquesaing said. “The pace is faster than most would have anticipated one year ago.”
He said Acer wasn’t planning to leave Windows Mobile handsets behind altogether, but said that the eight to 10 phones planned for 2010 would be “much more balanced” between the two operating systems.
Android’s cause was championed almost singlehandedly by HTC at first, but other smartphone makers have jumped on board too in recent months, including Sony Ericsson and Samsung.
