Free Fring video calls for Nokia users

Written by Linsey on November 25, 2009 – 2:30 pm One Comment

Fring_logoMessaging service Fring has released an update for Nokia handset users allowing them to make video calls free of charge for the first time. Fring’s VoIP app integrates with Skype and lets you call contacts on either service via your phone’s 3G or Wi-Fi connection. Read on for more…

Fring’s normal voice-calling app is already available for the iPhone, Nokia Symbian S60 handsets and Android handsets, but the update introduces video calling for the first time, and at present is only for selected web-enabled Nokias.

“We’re proud to continue leading the field with the world’s first mobile video over internet including Fring and Skype mobile video calls,” said Fring CEO Avi Shechter, commenting on the update.

Compatible Nokia handsets include the Nokia X6, which goes on sale this week, the N97 and N97 mini, the N95 and N95 8GB, the N82 and the 5800 XpressMusic.
Fring says it plans to make the video-calling update available to other platforms in due course.

It’s been a good week for Nokia owners, who also got a Symbian S60-flavoured version of music-streaming service Spotify on Monday.
