Carphone Warehouse halts Satio sales
The Sony Ericsson Satio has had sales halted by the Carphone Warehouse after a flood of returns.
The mobile phone retailer said it had experienced an unusual level of Satio returns due to an unspecified software issue, with Sony Ericsson saying it was treating the matter as “utmost priority”. Read on for more details…“From time to time, we experience issues with new handsets and their software, which may result in a customer experience that is below our usually high standards,” Carphone Warehouse said in a statement. “We want customers to have complete confidence and satisfaction in the handsets they buy from us, which is why we have temporarily withdrawn the Satio from sale.”
Sony Ericsson confirmed that “a small number of customers” had experienced issues with the Symbian-based Satio. “Sony Ericsson is giving this matter its utmost priority and is working toward solving it as soon as possible,” the handset maker said in a statement.
A Vodafone spokesperson yesterday confirmed it was aware of the issue, but had no plans as yet to follow Carphone Warehouse’s lead. “We have a Vodafone variant of the Satio, which we have tested carefully. We have been monitoring the level of returns and at this stage they are not exceptional. We will continue to monitor them, but we are still selling the Satio at this stage,” the spokesperson said.

I’d like to know what’s up with ‘em. As in, precisely what’s making people return them. The one I played with was a prototype and a bit sluggish in places. At times it stuttered between screens too – although I’d expect that to have been ironed out before release.
