Nokia N900 gets voice-guided maps
The Nokia N900 is set to be guided by voices, thanks to a new voice-controlled mobile GPS app Sygic. So now you can save those valuable finger calories when trying to find your way home…
The Nokia handset isn’t the first phone to enjoy Sygic’s handy voice-guided mapping – the iPhone has enjoyed its turn-by-turn wizardry and now it’s Nokia’s new Maemo 5 OS’s turn.
While spoken directions are nothing new to dedicated in-car GPS devices, mobile services like Google Maps or Nokia’s own Ovi Maps are restricted to on-screen directions, which can be a problem if you have to keep your eyes firmly on the road in unfamiliar territory.
Maemo 5 support means Sygic is now available on most mobile phones, with iPhone OS, Symbian, Android and Windows Mobile already supported, while regional maps cover four continents. But Nokia N900 users keen to get their hands on Sygic will have to be patient, however, as it’s not likely to be available for download before the end of the year.
