The Blackberry Storm 2 (pictured) has only just graced us with its presence, but the rumourmill has been grinding out nuggets of speculation about its successor for some time. The BlackBerry Storm 3, also known as Mr T or the 9900 depending on who you listen to, will feature a slide-out QWERTY keyboard in a marked departure from the current Storm’s touch-only interface. Read on for more…The BlackBerry Storm 3 is being widel touted by analysts as “a cross between the Storm 2 and one of RIM’s non-touch QWERTY devices”.
It would certainly come as no surprise given BB’s QWERTY heritage and the present Storm’s largely unloved click-screen interface. It’s also been speculated that RIM will address the Storm’s other primary weakness – its web browser – by using the open-source WebKit technology used in Apple Safari and Google Chrome and possibly opening the device up to third-party browsers.
BlackBerry itself has remained silent on the Storm 3, but predictions claim we can expect something official early in the new year. Rumours about a BlackBerry slider originated with a “leaked” 2009 road map that appeared in the press in December last year claiming a Storm Slider – “an unconfirmed slider, targeting European users, possibly 3G and WiFi” – was being lined up for the end of 2009.
