Palm Pixi offering webOS on a budget soon
Palm’s followup to the Palm Pre, the Palm Pixi, is due to launch in the US on 15th November – and it could be making the journey across the Atlantic fairly soon after. The Pixi will be the second mobile phone to feature Palm’s webOS software, and should be a lot more affordable than its predecessor.
The Palm Pixi doesn’t quite offer the same spec as the Pre. Its touchscreen is 2.6-inch and 320 x 400 rather than 3.1-inch and 320 x 480, while the camera offers a mere 2-megapixels to the Pre’s 3.2. And there’s no Wi-Fi, which could prove problematic when the Pixi gets stacked up against rivals like the HTC Tattoo.
But elsewhere it looks impressive: there’s 8GB of built-in storage, GPS, an accelerometer, a 3.5mm headphone socket and both touchscreen and full QWERTY keyboard, arranged in a BlackBerry-esque fashion. It’s also compatible with the undeniably cool Palm TouchStone wireless charger.
Lastly, the Palm Pixi weighs a touch under 100g and measures up at a svelte 111 x 55 x 10.9mm. So, very slim and light for a smart phone.
We’ll bring you more info on the Palm Pixi’s UK launch as we get it. In the meantime, would you fancy owning the Pre’s little brother? Let us know in the comments below…
