Sales of the Apple iPhone have reached record highs according to Apple itself, after the Cupertino posted its latest quarterly financial results. Find out exactly how Apple’s Messiah Mobile is performing after the jump…
According to Apple, the company sold 7.4 million iPhones in the quarter ending September 26. That’s a staggering amount of mobile phones when you consider that the world is apparently in a recession. It also represents a seven per cent increase on the same quarter from last year!
What makes that figure even more impressive is the fact that it also represents the largest number of iPhones sold in a single quarter – ever. When you consider that the likes of Nokia (one of Apple’s biggest rivals in the phone world) have been seriously struggling, it’s all the more impressive. A fact not lost on Apple CEO Steve Jobs: “We are thrilled to have sold more Macs and iPhones than in any previous quarter.”
The success of the iPhone was also mirrored by improved Mac sales results, as alluded to by Jobs. Apple sold 3.05 million Macs which represented a 17 per cent increase on the previous year’s growth. In terms of finances, the company posted a revenue of $9.87 billion and a net quarterly profit of $1.67 billion.
Not bad at all in these troubled economic climes. But what can Apple do to maintain its success with the iPhone. With pretenders such as the HTC Hero and Google’s Android operating system growing at an impressive rate, surely it’s only a matter of time before the iPhone is overtaken as the number one phone. Or can it stay top indefinitely?
