The Apple iPhone is many things, but it’s not an FM radio… yet. Well that could all be about to change if Apple really is considering launching a radio application. Find out if you’ll be able to get a dose of Messrs Christopher Evans and Moyles on your Messiah Mobile after the jump…
The bods at 9to5mac are reporting that Apple is following up the FM radio thrown into its recent incarnation of the iPod nano, by creating an FM radio application for the iPhone. It makes sense given that the recent incarnation of the Apple mobile phone, the 3GS, does have an FM tuner and can receive FM radio signals (and even broadcast them to a car radio for example).
So why hasn’t the app been unveiled already? Well apparently Apple is trying to integrate the Mobile iTunes Store functionality into the phone. That would allow you to buy any songs that you hear on the radio direct from the iTunes Store. It’s clever stuff and would add a new and welcome dimension to the iPhone.
While this is still just a rumour, it’s one that we hope comes off. The iPhone 3GS is already a hero device of amazing proportions, with awesome multimedia powers. Give it the power of radio too, and it’s hitting new heights.
What do you think of an FM radio app for iPhone? Sound like a good idea? Let us know…
